Chalmette High School, School Based Health Center
Chalmette High School, School Based Health Center (CHSSBHC) opened in August 2007 as the first school based health center in St. Bernard Parish and quickly became an integral part of the health care system in St.Bernard following Hurricane Katrina. CHSSBHC is a full service health center that serves the needs of Chalmette High School students. By having a health center on campus, students can access medical and mental health service while in school. This allows students to stay in school and parents to stay at work. The team works closely with guardians in providing patient services.
The SBHC team of professionals includes a Medical Director, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Medical Assistants and Center Coordinators.
Some of the services provided at the Health Center include:
- Preventive Care
- Acute and Chronic illness management
- Comprehensive and Sports physicals
- Health screenings
- Routine lab work
- Vision and hearing screening
- Covid Testing
- Immunizations (including COVID-19)
CHSSBHC operates in partnership with St. Bernard Parish Schools. The center's funding is a collaborative effort of Methodist Health System Foundation and the State of Louisiana's Office of Public Health's Adolescent School Health Program.
